K. I. Singh is an architect with four decades of professional experience. After graduating from Corbusier’s famed city of Chandigarh in 1974, he served the J&K Govt. for two and half years. He returned to his alma-mater Chandigarh College of Architecture as Asst. Prof. and taught from 1977-1978. Post which he joined IAAI and worked on the design of Mumbai’s Sahar Airport and master planning for its staff townships at Kolkata and Chennai. He joined NTPC, in 1980 as an architect, where he stayed on to superannuate as General Manger, on 30 Sept 2011.
He is a visiting faculty at Sushant School of Architecture.
At NTPC, he headed an Infrastructural Services team comprising of Architects, Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers and Service Engineers.
The team rendered Complete Township Package: From Conceptualization to Tender Preparation, Cost Estimation, Formulation of Specification, Construction detailing, Co-coordinating with Mechanical-Electrical-Plumbing Consultants, Contracts and Finance departments, including Monitoring of Progress.
Twenty Townships, ranging from 50 to 400 Acres [Residential, Non – Residential, Institutional, Educational, Hospitals (30–100 Bedded) including Convenient Services], have been developed either as in-house assignments or through consultants, under his leadership.
Industrial Architecture of Power Station Buildings of NTPC, from the first Plant in NTPC till the latest power plants at Simhadri Power Plant at Vishakhpatnam, and Talcher Thermal Power Project in Odisha, were handled. Another hallmark of contribution was in designs of Control Rooms for Power plants.
Corporate Interiors were carried out as Consultancy assignments for Central Electricity Authority, Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission and Rural Electrification Corporation, etc.
He had also been on jury, as Technical Member with MDI, Gurgaon, PGCIL, Central Bank Of India, ITO, ND. And in-house Design Competitions for NTPC’s Corporate Office at Noida and NETRA, Gr. Noida.
